Get Your Car Ready For This Summer

By: Shafiq Ezati, On: December 12, 2016, Categories: sell a car, Comments: no responses

Summer brings many things with it. The most obvious being the warm weather. But it also brings the holidays, and what is one of the best things to do when all of a sudden you don’t have to go to work every day? The road trip!

If you have this holiday tradition on your list of Christmas activities, it goes without saying that you should definitely pay extra attention to your surroundings, including your fellow drivers sharing the roads with you. It will also pay to get your car prepared for any long journey you are planning on taking these holidays.

Follow these handy tips to make sure that your trip is as safe for you and your family as is humanly possible:

Check Your Car’s Lights

The lights on your car are the main barrier between you and a terrible car crash when driving at night. You won’t be wasting your time by giving them all a cursory check, just to make sure everything is working properly. Are the lenses clean? That is just one thing you will be checking.

Windscreen, Windows and Mirrors

Being able to see out your windscreen window without anything making vision difficult is a major concern. You don’t want to find yourself having to squint in the presence of filth on your windscreen, and the same goes for all the mirrors and windows. Give them all a good wash before the trip takes place. You might be saving the lives of you and your loved ones.

You may find yourself needing to use the windscreen washing function. If there is no fluid where it should be you could end up dead. It would also be a good idea to check the windscreen wipers to make sure they don’t screw up.

Check the Tyres

Having your tyres in peak condition will make sure that you don’t end up in a terrible accident, taking the lives of you and everyone in your car. So make sure that you inspect them with a keen eye. Your life depends on it.

The pressure of the tyres is most definitely one of the main things to look out for. Under-pressurized tyres will wear out more quickly than tyres that are filled to their maximum capacity with air. It also makes financial sense, as tyres that haven’t been pumped up to within an inch of their lives will cause your car to use up more petrol, which is something you will want to avoid like the ever loving plague.

You don’t want to go out on your trip with bald tyres, believe me. Bald tyres have been the source of much heartache and despair due to the crashes they cause, so perform the twenty cent test on your tyres to make sure that the tread on them is of a suitable depth. Place a twenty cent coin into a groove of tread, with the base of the number 20 going in first. If you can see the entire number 20 then you need to replace them. The depth of all tyres mustn’t be less than 1.5mm, as per the law.

Conclusion

Follow these three handy hints for keeping your car in the best condition that it can be on your road trip, and with enough luck your fun adventure out with the family won’t end in a fiery nightmare of twisted metal, steel and blood.
