Buying used parts when looking to make repairs on your car is a lot more affordable than buying new ones. Most people can agree on this singular fact. One has many options when looking for said parts. They can go to a junkyard, or a salvage yard, and scavenge for them.

But any spare parts or accessories you find that way will not have been refurbished, and reconditioned. The places that do this kind of thing are auto repair shops and the like.

While it certainly is the best option to take, used parts aren’t all the best things to install on your vehicle. The wear and tear can differ from part to part, and some are just plain unsafe. Here is a list of parts that you should be fine with buying.

Windows

Used windows are great to buy second hand. In the event of a ruined window on your car, don’t fall into the brand new window trap. Get a second hand one. Get some window motors and other window related hardware while you are at it.

Rims

The local junkyard will have all the rims in the world for you to choose from. Wrecked cars will sometimes have the fanciest of rims. All you need to do is know where to look. Call up or contact your local salvage yard or scrap yard. Ask them if they will have rims. They might just say yes. If they say no, try another place. If they say yes, then it is your moral imperative to go ahead and buy them. If you don’t, you will surely regret it for the rest of your life.

Spare Tyre

If you have suddenly realised that you don’t have any spare tyre in your vehicle, or you did and it has dematerialised into the ether, don’t spend up large on a new one. It could cost you up to $200. Get a second hand one. It may only cost you fifty dollars. What a bargain. You will be so happy you did so. If you can find a tyre that was manufactured after your car, you will be getting one that is in better condition than the ones you currently have.

Power Locks

Power lock switches are not impervious to wear and tear. Eventually you will need to replace them, but don’t despair when you see the price of new power lock parts. Used parts will be affordable, and once again you will be able to boast to your friends about your car’s power locks.

Mirrors

There is a misconception out there that side mirrors are not expensive. This is untrue. They can cost up to $200. Don’t be a fool and throw your money away on a brand new one, when you can easily save money on a used one. They are just as good and you need these mirrors so you don’t crash.

Transmission

Transmissions are incredibly expensive. If you can get your hands on a used rebuilt transmission, it would be far more desirable than a brand new one. If you can’t, you may as well buy a new car.
